A last-minute hunt is on to find the people who make a difference to their communities in Sutton.
Almost 200 nominations for the 2014 Sutton Community Awards have been made so far, but there are still a few days left to suggest an outstanding local person.
The annual awards are designed to make sure local “heroes” get the recognition they deserve for what they do.
They are a way of saying thank you to the local heroes, volunteers, carers, charity workers, club and event organisers and good neighbours who have made a difference in Sutton’s community.
Nominations are open to anyone who lives, works, studies or volunteers in the boroughs.
An impressing variety of great local people were awarded at the 2013 ceremony, with a case study available in this earlier press release.
Council Leader Ruth Dombey said:
“We are lucky that Sutton is filled to the brim with inspiring individuals who go that extra mile, whether they are carers, volunteers, community organisers or charity workers.
“There are just a few days left to put in a nomination to help us recognise all those who make a real difference to our borough, so please get nominating.”
The closing date for nominations is this Sunday, 11 January 2015.
After Sunday, a panel made up of representatives including councillors and the Sutton Guardian will pick a short list.
All those shortlisted will be invited to a celebration event in February, where the winners will be announced.
