Sutton High Street will host a creative Crafternoon and pop-up library on Saturday 10 September that will introduce residents to Sutton Council’s Market Place Sutton plans.

The northern end of the high street will be transformed between 11am – 4pm into an area where visitors can take part in fun activities including temporary chalk stencil painting and hopscotch as we unveil some of the ideas for our Market Place Sutton vision.

Residents’ Stories of Sutton, collected earlier, will be showcased between Princess Alice Hospice and H&T Pawnbrokers. It will be an opportunity to look back into the history of the area and vote on designs for new artwork to be installed in the alleyways.

There’s also the chance to help in designing illuminated signs, inspired by one-time borough luminary H. G. Wells’ social science-fiction, which will light up the alleyway next to Asda and The Winning Post. Developed by renowned designer Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad and Sutton Council this unique display is sure to impress all who see it.

There will also be a live performance from Mosi Condi as well as a pop-up library, and a space where visitors will be able to see and choose their favourite prototype seating designs for the regenerated Market Place Sutton area.

Cllr Jill Whitehead, Chair of the Environment and Neighbourhood Committee at Sutton Council, said:

“The Crafternoon is a great opportunity for residents to come along and meet us to find out more about some of our ambitions for Market Place Sutton. We’ll have exciting displays that mean residents can join in the fun and see some of the ideas so far as we inspire them to share their own.”
