SUTTON LIBRARIES CELEBRATE WORLD BOOK DAY

Libraries all across Sutton will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 6th March 2014 with a range of events for library users and supporters to enjoy.

The day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly reading. It is the biggest celebration of its kind and is even designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration, one marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

Westcroft Library will be celebrating World Book Day, as well as its own success (last year saw a visit increase of 370% since its opening) with an “Opening Lines” trail. Famous opening lines from renowned books will be hidden around the library, those able to place the lines to the correct book will be able to claim a selection of treats and prizes.

Library staff will mark the day by dressing up as book characters whilst local nursery children who will also be visiting the library will be encouraged do the same! There will also be a drop-in colouring/activity after school where you can make your own Diary of a Wimpy Kid mask.

Over at Cheam Library people will be given the chance to take part in the “Guess the Book” challenge, testing your literary knowledge by asking you to identifying the author and title of books just from the cover – guess them correctly to claim a small treat!

The library at the Pheonix Centre is celebrating the day with a “Mystery Book Trail” offering prizes for those who search the library for clues and and complete the trail. A separate book display will encourage people to “Grab Something Different!” An attempt to broaden the choice of books people select to take-out.

Sutton Library will host a lucky dip to pick up a badge or a bookmark to celebrate this special day.

All the events are completely free of charge.
