Joint statement following London Bridge and Borough Market terrorist incidents, Saturday 3 June

Cllr Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council; Cllr Tim Crowley, Leader of the Opposition at Sutton Council; Niall Bolger, Chief Executive of Sutton Council; and Acting Sutton Borough Police Commander Mark Lawrence said in a joint statement:

“We are all shocked and appalled at these awful scenes in our city on Saturday 3 June. The cowardly attacks on innocent people in central London were aimed to make us feel afraid in our own streets, restaurants and shops. We can guarantee you these aims will not be successful. London is strong, London is resilient, and London is open. You will never make us afraid to live in our own city.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected or injured, and the families of those who lost their lives in this mindless atrocity. We pay tribute to the bravery of our emergency services who rushed to help others without a thought for their own safety.

“Sutton Council and the Metropolitan Police work closely through the Safer Sutton Partnership to ensure Sutton remains safe and vigilant, and we are ready to support our friends and neighbours across London and the country.”

As a mark of respect the Union Flag at Sutton Civic Offices will be flown at half-mast and we will hold a one minute silence at 11.00am on Tuesday 6 June.
